Lorie was at one time a practicing witch who now works at a museum which had recently put up an exhibit on the "Holy Water of Lazarus", once used by Jesus Christ himself, and had recently "returned to the church". John has a girlfriend named Lorie Heath, whom he dated back in high school but was forbidden to see her by his domineering father. The basis of the story is around biblical allegories. The player assumes the role of John Murray, a mental patient who has escaped from an asylum, and must fight to survive a zombie outbreak by using various manic-like weapons such as hedge clippers and deodorant-flamethrowers.
